Polyploidy in Gymnosperms-A Reappraisal
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract Recent polyploidy in gymnosperms is unusually scarce being present only 9.80 % of the 714 taxa studied cytologically. Polyploid forms are represented by sporadic seedlings and individual trees, intraspecific cultivation or wild entirely polyploid species genera. Polyploidy shows a non-random distribution different genera mostly prevalent Ephedra Juniperus , besides classic examples Sequoia Fitzroya . Remarkably, both show adaptive radiation interspecific hybridization followed while Ginkgo viable cytotypes found cultivation. Induced has not provided any tangible results past but recent attempts on certain Cupressaceae hold some promise producing cultivars for horticulture trade. Lastly, various evidences derived from cytological analysis, fossil pollen, guard cells comparative genomic studies indicating occurrence paleopolyploidy have been discussed.

CEREBRAL HYDATIDOSIS: A REAPPRAISAL
The remarkable evolution of surgical management of cerebral hydatidosis towards an earlier diagnosis and proper treatment is evident from this 22-year retrospective study of our experience with 19 cases seen at Shiraz University Medical Institutions. Both cases of iatrogenically-induced infected cysts were seen during the pre-CT era. The optimistic view of being able to remove all the cyst...
متن کاملA reappraisal of the Pyriculariaceae in Iran
The family Magnaporthaceae considered as a single-family placed in the order Magnaporthales. Currently, three distinct clades are phylogenetically distinguished in this order that one is referred as the Pyriculariaceae. The Pyriculariaceae is characterized as a novel family having new genera, new species, new combinations and neotypification (basionym). To taxonomically evaluate this family, an...
متن کاملEvolution and biogeography of gymnosperms.
Living gymnosperms comprise only a little more than 1000 species, but represent four of the five main lineages of seed plants, including cycads, ginkgos, gnetophytes and conifers. This group has huge ecological and economic value, and has drawn great interest from the scientific community. Here we review recent advances in our understanding of gymnosperm evolution and biogeography, including ph...
متن کاملPolyploidy
Polyploidy is defined as an increase in genome DNA content. Throughout the plant and animal kingdoms specific cell types become polyploid as part of their differentiation programs. When this occurs in subsets of tissues within an organism it is termed somatic polyploidy, because it is distinct from the increase in ploidy that is inherited through the germline and present in every cell type of t...
